Hi Vivien! The teens made dolls to go with every dress that has been finished! It was amazing last night...I took all the dresses I had to church and hung them on the coat rack. By the end of the night...all dresses had a doll in the pocket! It's the Holy Spirit at work:)) Let me know when you can come over and sew...I need a visual for what you're doing!

I have been making dresses out of $2.00 a yard clearance fabrics. I cut the dresses on the fold, leaving only one side seam to be sewn. I use the fabric left over after I cut where I want the only seam to be sewn, for a ruffle. Then I take the two strips to be used for the ruffle, and sew both of those together to make one circular piece. Then I use a basting stitch to create two rows at 3/8's of an inch and 5/8's for gathering, then pin ruffle, right sides together, adjust ruffle gathering to fit and stitch to bottom of the dress. The armholes and elastic and bias tape remain the same. I also have cut my own bias tape on the bias of coordinating fabrics, which works well, and is not as expensive as bias tape from the store and not as hard on your sewing needles!! Pocket can be sewn on before side seam is sewn or after.Happy sewing! Any questions, please contact me.
